Traditional ideas in art and stories suggest that God is an old man with a beard, sitting on a cloud in the sky. This idea is not widely believed.

Instead, other metaphors have been suggested, such as God as a power (like the wind, whose force is felt, but never seen). Alternatively some people describe God as love.

In monotheistic religions (that believe in only one God), God is believed to be:
