avoir — affirmative and negative:

avoir as auxiliary: j'ai mangé (I ate). Past participle does NOT agree with subject (unlike être).

More idioms: avoir besoin de (to need), avoir envie de (to feel like/want), avoir l'air (to seem), avoir lieu (to take place), avoir du mal à (to have difficulty).

Remember: avoir is used as the infinitive form in je vais avoir (I am going to have).
